Despite Kicks to the Groin, Gallegos Triumphs

The co-main event of the night, David Gallegos from Team No Comment out of Chicago fought against Richard Dey from Wrecking Ball out of Volo, IL.The fight was for the vacant FCE Bantamweight title and was set for 5 Rounds.

In the 1st Round, Gallegos and Dey engaged and quickly exchanged many kicks and strikes. Dey attemped a few arm bars but Gallegos was able to prevail. Dey also successfully landed strong kicks and Gallegos would return the favor. The fight was evenly matched and was non-stop action since the 1st Round.

By the 2nd Round, Dey had already landed 3 kicks to the groin of Gallegos. Dey received two warnings for the first two kicks but after the 3rd groin kick, he got a point deduction.

In the 4th Round, Dey was deducted another point for a fourth kick to the groin of Gallegos. Despite the groin kicks, Gallegos got back up every time and re-engaged with Dey.

Many in the crowd, along with Gallegos’ corner were disapointed at what Dey called “accidental” kicks to the groin.

Disappointed Fans Due To Groin Kicks

“Seriously, if he (Dey) has that much of a bad aim, he shouldn’t be fighting. He was doing such a sloppy job that he was probably hoping a few groin kicks would give him the advantage. He should’ve been disqualified,” said mma fan present at Undisputed, Jesus Rivas.

“He’s not a real Muay Thai Fighter. Muay Thai fighters don’t kick ‘accidentally’” said Justin Robles, another mma fan present at Undisputed.

Dey did his best to keep his composure despite the point deductions and kicks to the groin but after 5 Rounds of fighting, Gallegos defeated Dey by a Split Decision and became the new FCE Bantamweight Champion.

David Gallegos

Performance

“I feel good about my performance. I didn’t get excited, I didn’t get stupid and go to the ground and avoided getting caught in something. He (Dey) is a great Jujitsu guy and I give him all the props in the world. I utilized my striking, circling, getting out of dangerous positions and just striking, which was my game plan,” said Gallegos.

Gallegos said he didn’t mind getting the take down but his game plan was to keep it standing and continously keep circling and exchanging.

Toughest Challenge

“Not getting caught. It’s a fear that I’ve gotten over. The worse feeling in the world is to be doing so good in the fight and get caught. I didn’t want that to happen and I knew that if I circle and keep my hands up, that’s what’s going to get me wins, just sticking to that game plan,” said Gallegos.

When asked if he felt he connected enough, Gallegos said, “Yeah, his eye was red, he was bleeding, I know my jab is stiff and I was working it. I need to get my boxing up to the next level. I know my wrestling is there and I know my defense is getting better on the ground.”

Final Thoughts

“First and foremost, I want to thank my team. Then I’m going to rest and spend some time with my kids,” said Gallegos.

This fight definitely lived up to its expectation, both fighters engaged throughout the whole 5 rounds. At times, Sabbah was able to pass Greene’s reach and would connect with fast hands.

Even though Sabbah was able to get the mount a few times, Greene continued to fight back and survived Sabbah’s rear naked choke attempt.

After 5 rounds of non-stop action, Greene defeated Sabbah by Unanimous Decision crowining him the new FCE Heavyweight Champion.

Greene said he is satisfied with his performance but acknowledged that he didn’t use his reach to his advantage.

Reach Advantage…?

When asked if he feels his used his reach to his advantage, Greene said, “No, I could’ve used it a lot more. I saw in the later rounds, when his conditioning started to depleat, I had a lot more openings, so I took them but first and foremost, conditioning was key. I was good all 5 rounds and that is why I was able to win.”

Performance

“I feel good. I made a lot of mistakes, that’s why I went 5 rounds. It’s time to go back to my camp and look at the mistakes but I’m happy I got the win, I’m going to enjoy the win for right now. I’m looking to go Pro, I need one title defense take on this,” said Greene.

Toughest Challenge

“Sammie is a big, big football player. Just trying to get leverage on someone that big and just avoiding his big powerful strikes, I did a decent job but took too many of them.

Final Thoughts

“All I got to tell everybody is, live by this motto and you will be a winner: ‘Work hard, F**k luck’. You don’t win by being lucky, you work your ass off and that is how you win,” said Greene.
